 Invocation Verses for Vedic Chanting

 

This is contains set of popular verses chanted as Invocation to overcome obstacles in the path of our endeavours, especially educational initiatives. This set has seven verses - chanted in the Krishnamacharya Tradition. Lord Vishnu, Lord Vishvaksena, Lord Lakshmi Narayana, The Guru Parampara, Lord Hayagriva, Sri Krishnamacharya - are invoked and saluted in these seven verses. The verse are chanted and their detailed meaning discussions done in this set of videos.

The verse discussed are given below - 

Shloka 1 

शुक्लाम्बर-धरं विष्णुं शशि-वर्णं चतुर्भुजम् | 

प्रसन्न-वदनं ध्यायेत् सर्व-विघ्नोप शान्तये || 

Śuklāmbara-dharaṃ viṣṇuṃśaśi-varṇaṃ caturbhujam |

prasanna-vadanaṃ dhyāyetsarva-vighnopa śāntaye || 

 

Shloka 2 

यस्य द्विरद-वक्त्राद्याः  पारिषद्याः परः शतम् । 

विघ्नं निघ्नन्ति सततं विष्वक्सेनं तमाश्रये ॥  

yasya dvirada-vaktrādyāḥ  pāriṣadyāḥ paraḥ śatam . 

vighnaṃ nighnanti satataṃ viṣvaksenaṃ tamāśraye .. 

 

 Verse 3 

ज्ञानानन्द-मयं देवं निर्मल-स्फटिकाकृतिम् । 

आधारं सर्व-विद्यानां हयग्रीवमुपास्महे ॥ 

Jñānānanda-mayaṃ devaṃ Nirmala-sphaṭikākṛtim . 

ādhāraṃ sarva-vidyānāṃ hayagrīvamupāsmahe .. 

 

Shloka 4 

पुण्डरीकासनासीनं पाण्डुराभ्रेन्दु-सन्निभम्। 

अखण्ड-बोध-जनकं हयग्रीवमुपास्महे॥ 

puṇḍarīkāsanāsīnaṃ Pāṇḍurābhrendu-sannibham. 

Akhaṇḍa-bodha-janakaṃ hayagrīvamupāsmahe.. 

 

Shloka 5 

गुरुभ्यस्तद्गुरुभ्यश्च नमोवाकमधीमहे । 

वृणीमहे च तत्राद्यौ दम्पती जगतां पती  ॥ 

gurubhyastadgurubhyaśca namovākamadhīmahe . 

vṛṇīmahe ca tatrādyau dampatī jagatāṃ patī  ..  

 

Shloka 6 

श्रीकृष्णवागीशयतीश्वराभ्यां सम्प्राप्तचक्राङ्कणभाष्यसारम्। 

श्रीनूत्नरङ्गेन्द्रयतौ समर्पितस्वं श्रीकृष्णमार्यं गुरुवर्यमीडे॥ 

śrīkṛṣṇavāgīśayatīśvarābhyāṃ samprāptacakrāṅkaṇabhāṣyasāram. 

śrīnūtnaraṅgendrayatau samarpitasvaṃ śrīkṛṣṇamāryaṃ guruvaryamīḍe.. 

 

Shloka 7 

विरोधे कार्त्तिके मासे शतताराकृतोदयम् 

योगाचार्यं कृष्णमार्यं गुरुवर्यमहं भजे॥ 

virodhe kārttike māse śatatārākṛtodayam 

yogācāryaṃ kṛṣṇamāryaṃ guruvaryamahaṃ bhaje..

  Mantra Artha Initiative     Presents  Gayatri Mantra Rishi Vishvamitras mantra to inspire the Mind & Actions     A set of 3 Videos  explaining the Mantra based on  Traditional commentary of Acharya Sayana (14th CE).  This is the most popular and oft used mantra in domestic rituals and also spiritual practices in Hindu tradition.  ṛgveda is considered to be the oldest source of this Mantra. This mantra forms part of the 62nd sūkta of the 3rd maṇḍalaof ṛgveda . The Mantradraṣḥṭā for this sūkta is Viśvāmitra. This sūkta has 18 mantras and this mantra is the tenth. The 18 mantras of this sūkta are divided into 6 tṛcas. As you rightly guessed tṛca is a term used to indicate set of three "ṛks". The 6 tṛchas of the sūkta are addressed to the deities indrāvaruṇā, bṝhaspati, pūṣan, savitā, soma and mitrāvaruṇā respectively.
